Fintan McKahey – Goodbye

Fintan McKahey is a 25 year old singer songwriter from Cork. He has been playing and writing music from a young age and has been releasing music since the age of 16. A multi-instrumentalist and producer, Fintan is skilled in playing a number of different instruments and in addition to this, he produces all of his own music.

His music is a mixture of sultry low fi indie sounds and he incorporates influences of bedroom pop and trip-hop into his sound. He is influenced by various solo artists/producers such as Chet Faker and Bonobo, as well as songwriters like Ben Howard, Matt Corby, and Nick Drake.

His previous releases, including his debut EP ‘God Games’ and recent single ‘Platinum’ have received critical acclaim from both radio and press and on the 14th of August, he will be treating his listeners to new single ‘Goodbye’.

Upon my first listen to ‘Goodbye’, the only way I could describe this song is smooth as caramel. Fintan’s signature low and smokey vocals combined with his intricate guitar playing and precise songwriting make for a memorable and sexy track. The acoustic aspect of this track is blended well with low and soothing beats. A well thought out addition to the song comes in the form of vocals from fellow Irish singer Ava Archbold. The female touch to ‘Goodbye’ mingles in an almost intimate way with McKahey’s husky voice.

‘Goodbye’ focuses on what a large amount of musicians tend to focus on for their songs; relationships. As mundane as that may seem, it isn’t, as McKahey looks at the relationship from a different aspect that a lot would choose not to focus on – the difficulties at the end of a relationship, when both parties are clinging on in hope of salvation. “Don’t say goodbye, we could try for the last time” sung by both McKahey and Archbold, shows the longing to hold on and not let go of what they have. The song is a very mature sounding love song that’s almost hypnotizing in nature and will engage the listener from start to finish.

You can check it out from midnight tonight on Spotify and all other good streaming platforms!
