Dublin born singer songwriter Simon James has just released his brand new song, ‘Skylar’s Got A Gun’.
Twenty four year old Simon is no stranger to the arts and is not only a singer but has also worked in acting and dancing. At just six years old he began acting and played ‘Cathal’, Veronica Guerin’s son in the film of the same name. He also landed the role of Christian Kelly in a short film written by Irish writer Roddy Doyle.
Simon is also a great ambassador for online safety, cyber bullying and mental health. This is one of the many reasons that we here at An Nóta Ard are big fans of his! He does not shy away from addressing these issues both in every day life and in his music too.
‘Skylar’s Got A Gun’ was released on Friday 1st of May and can only be described as an upbeat, summery pop song! Simon draws influence from artists such as Clean Bandit, Charlie Puth and Ed Sheeran and these influences can definitely be heard echoed in this song.
The song was written by both Simon James and David Asante (also known for his work with artists such as James Arthur and Lauren Faith!) and despite the happy sounding melodies, it tells a story of a relationship between a man and his ex-girlfriend named Skylar. The lyrics to this song are slightly darker than what we would be used to from Simon and describe the honeymoon phase of a relationship and how it has lead to what is essentially insanity and realising Skylar is crazy (and has a gun!). The lyrics in this song are all too relatable for anyone who has had a crazy ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend!
‘Skylar’s Got A Gun’ is a really fun tune which is sure to gain traction across the Irish music scene. Fans of artists such as Maroon 5, Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber are going to want to check this one out!
